Why These Picks?

ATL Falcons v CAR Panthers: The last two meetings between these squads cashed the Over in spades. To be frank, I totally expect this game to be a shootout that lands well on the other side of 44 points. The Falcons have scored at least 20 in their first two outings this season, and comically, Atlanta & Carolina have played some close games in recent past. With this game being the Panthers' first at home for the season, I Imagine they'll have some extra spring in their step. I’ll roll the dice on the Over this afternoon.

IND Colts v TEN Titans: The Colts have been putting mad points on the board this first couple of weeks, friends. I fully expected them to against the Miami Dolphins, but putting nearly 30 on the board against the Denver Broncos defense is a feat. I don’t love the Tennessee offense, but even a minimal contribution from them should push this final total Over 43.5. My money’s on this game to see at least 44.

CIN Bengals v MIN Vikings: I’m sorry – but the Vikings haven’t looked all that great. If Joe Burrow wasn’t out for this game, Cincinnati would undoubtedly be favoured. Given that both teams are rolling with a backup QB this afternoon, Jake Browning is no “newb”.  I’m going to give the Bengals the benefit of the doubt and say they cover if not outright upset this game on the road.

GB Packers v CLE Browns: The Packers offense is just far and away the better lineup. In addition, Green Bay’s defense has been the definition of a brick wall this last couple of weeks. The Packers should win this game by a TD and then some.

NY Jets v TB Buccaneers: I’m whole-heartedly on the Under here. Tampa’s defense looked phenomenal last week, and if the Jets have one thing going for them it’s their defensive line. In the event that Baker Mayfield & company run right through their visitors, I still think the encounter falls short of 43. Take the Under to cash.

With each party facing a challenge they haven’t yet had to deal with, I think this total is just too high (and likely inflated due to the first 3 games each team played…).  Because I think both teams will struggle a bit for the first time here, I’m rolling with the Under.

Wofford v Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech has been a hot mess over the last couple of weeks (0-3), and today, the Hokies finally find themselves in a spot where a victory should be all but automatic. I’ll just call a spade a spade: the Terriers are abysmal! Virginia Tech should have no issue covering the lofty spread and cashing the Over this afternoon.

UAB v Tennessee: It sounds crazy, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Tennessee found a way to cash this total themselves (lol). The Volunteers put a staggering 72 points on the board back on Sept 6, so it certainly wouldn’t be the first time. In short: one of the best offenses in CFB should face little resistance today, and if UAB should contribute to the total, I’ll welcome it. Take the Over to cash.

Why These Picks?

The Athletics v PIT Pirates: It’s tough for me to bet on a low score with Mitch Keller’s (4.13 ERA) name on the schedule – so I won’t (lol). Between Keller and Luis Severino (4.82 ERA), this total should see at least 9. Severino has allowed 8 runs on 10 hits in just his last 2 starts – it makes no sense to put money on an Under with a statistic like that in the wings. In addition, the As have won 6 of their last 7 games, and haven’t had much issue putting runs in the bag over the last week. I don’t trust either pitcher and both bullpens leave a ton to be desired – I’ll happily take the Over to cash.

MIA Marlins v TEX Rangers: This is a very reasonable price for the Rangers to win outright at home. Starter Tyler Mahle (2.34 ERA) is a very respectable 6-3 – and while Janson Junk is equal in this W/L regard, he’s carrying around a 4.48 ERA. Granted, Junk is a perfect 4-0 on the road, hence, the “reasonable price”. But having won 4 of their last 5 encounters with the Marlins, I’ll take Texas to bag the victory at home.

PHI Phillies v ARI Diamondbacks: This is actually one of my favourite matchups in MLB, and it tends to be a high-scoring one. These two squads have cashed the Over in 4 of their last 5 meetings, and Taijuan Walker (4.17 ERA) has allowed 13 runs over his last 3 starts. Of today's two pitchers, Ryne Nelson (3.34 ERA) has far and away been the more reliable party. I say this game sees a total of at least 10 and the Diamondbacks snag a home win.
