Why These Picks?
LA Angels v WAS Nationals: Washington starter Cade Cavalli is great at home. Having won 4 of his last 5 outings, I’m not quite sure why the book expects the Angels and starter Yusei Kikuchi (4.96 ERA) to hold a candle to Cavalli and the Nationals offense. Kikuchi is just 1-3 on the road and is carrying around an Away ERA of 6.10. I’m on Washington to cover the RL in this spot.
COL Rockies v DET Tigers: The Rockies should be able to get enough past Framber Valdez (4.17 ERA) to push this game past 8 runs. Despite Valdez having a solid last outing, tonight's visitors haven't been shutout of a game in ages (despite having a lacklustre offense...) In addition, I don't doubt Detroit's ability to run up a score on the Rockies bullpen. This pick requires little explanation; take the Over to hit.
SEA Mariners v Athletics: George Kirby (4.18 ERA) starting a road game automatically equates to a high-scoring affair these days; Kirby has allowed a staggering 16 runs across his last 3 starts away from home. On the other side, Athletics starter Jeffrey Springs is carrying around a whopping 6.02 ERA, and 4 of his last 5 outings have seen totals of at least 13 runs. I’m certainly not looking to back a low-scoring game here – give me the Over to cash.
