Why These Picks?

Clemson v LSU: I’ve gotta roll with a low-scoring affair here, friends. Two solid defenses should make points hard to come by in this matchup; I wouldn’t be surprised if this game total doesn’t make it to 40.5. To boot, both teams have new QBs that will be finding their stride against said solid defenses. I’m whole-heartedly on the Under to cash, and I’ll take Clemson to keep things close.

TOR Blue Jays v KC Royals: With Kansas City starter Seth Lugo having allowed 15 runs over just his last 3 starts, it’s incredibly tough to build a case for a low-scoring game. Add to that the unpredictability of Toronto starter Max Scherzer’s arm? This encounter sees at least 10 runs in my mind. And, unpredictable as Scherzer has been this season, he’s been pitching better than Lugo has lately. I’m on the Over to hit, and I’ll take the Jays to win.

Athletics v SEA Mariners: How the book came to a line of 7.5 with Jeffrey Springs on the mound for the As, I’ll never know. The Over has cashed in all 5 of Springs’ last 5 starts. In addition, George Kirby has allowed a staggering 12 runs over his last 3 outings, and 4 of his last 5 trips to the mound have resulted in a Mariners loss. I admit, Kirby is far better at home than he is on the road, but 7.5 is still too low in my opinion. I’m tossing a chunk of change on the Over to hit here.
