Why These Picks?
COL Rockies v SF Giants: I don’t love either offense in this matchup, but both of today’s starters have allowed far too many runs over their last 5 starts for me to think this game has a shot at staying Under 8.5. Giants pitcher Trevor McDonald (5.46 ERA) has an ERA of 30.86 over the last week (somehow?!), and while Michael Lorenzen (6.46 ERA) has had a few solid outings recently, the Over has cashed in 4 of his last 5 starts. My money’s on a high-scoring affair this afternoon, friends – and, I’ll toss a sprinkle on Colorado to pull off the upset.
SEA Mariners v TB Rays: Tampa starer Ian Seymour (4.11 ERA) hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in any of his last 5 outings, and to be frank, Seattle’s offense has been on the struggle bus for 5 straight games now. If the Mariners manage to bag a win today and avoid the sweep, I don’t doubt the game will be a low-scoring one. I’ll wager that the visitors put 3 or fewer on the board.
TOR Blue Jays v SD Padres: Until Kevin Gausman consistently gets his sh*t together, I just can’t bet the Under. Gausman’s last start had a final score of 10-1 (he allowed 4 of those runs…) and he’s allowed 11 runs over his last 3 games. On the other side, San Diego pitcher German Marquez (5.02 ERA) is far from his best at home; take the Over to hit here.
