Why These Picks?

CHI White Sox v PHI Phillies: The White Sox bullpen AND Aaron Nola (5.55 ERA) on the mound for Philadelphia? To be frank, if this game doesn’t go to the moon, I’ll be livid. Chicago will start Tyler Gilbert (20.25 ERA), but the man hasn’t pitched more than an inning so far this season and has allowed 6 runs over his only two starts. To boot, the White Sox have put at least 6 runs on the board in 4 of their last 5 outings, and Nola is far from being Philly’s resident Ace. I’m on the Over to cash here, friends.

SEA Mariners v DET Tigers: This is a nice price for these two squads to put at least 9 in the bag, friends. Detroit starter Jack Flaherty (5.31 ERA) has been abysmal outside of his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays, and while Luis Castillo (5.53 ERA) has been better in his last couple of outings, I don’t doubt that the Tigers will get more than a few past him. I’ll take the Over to hit, and I’ll back the Mariners to bag a win.

Athletics v HOU Astros: Starter Mike Burrows is nowhere near consistent enough for me to think this total can stay low; Burrows has allowed 19 hits over just his last 3 starts, andI don't doubt that the Athletics can get to him early. On the other side, starter Gage Jump has only had two starts – one was great, the other saw him allow 4 runs. Jump is still a bit of a wild card in my opinion; as a relief pitcher, he could get pulled at anytime, but so far he's managed to stay in the game for at least 5 innings. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here. I'm on the Athletics to avoid the sweep, and on the Over to cash.
